Penn State Turfgrass Field Days

Information concerning the 2008 Penn State Turfgrass Field Days is now available. This years event will be held August 6 and 7 at the Joseph Valentine Research Center on the University Park campus of The Pennsylvania State University.

The Legacy

The turfgrass program at Penn State has a proud tradition of serving the turfgrass industry, and boasts an impressive list of “firsts.” Initiated in 1929 through the efforts of committed clientele, it was one of the first turfgrass programs in the nation. It was the first to employ a turfgrass extension specialist (1934), the first to graduate a Ph.D. turfgrass scientist (1950), the first to offer a two-year technical program specifically for golf course superintendents (since 1957), and the first to offer an undergraduate major in turfgrass science (since 1992). But being first is not all that counts; it is the quality of the program that really matters. Some evidence:

Our vision for the future is simple:

Penn State’s educational programs have been educating students for the turfgrass industry since the 1950s.

Penn State’s extensive research program finds solutions to the ongoing problems that professional managers encounter.

Conferences, field days, and publications are just some of the many ways that Penn State disseminates new information and research findings.

The Center for Turfgrass Science provides people, solutions, information, and training to the turfgrass industry.
